Start Human being (2018)

first man

Drama, history, biography – USA – 141 min

Written past Josh Singer (screenplay) and James R. Hansen (book)

Directed by Damien Chazelle

Have you always wondered how it'south like to board a spacecraft in a fancy, literally out-of-this-globe space arrange? Crusade I haven't – it'south but beyond the telescopic of my imagination. But I know ane thing – watchingFirst Man is the closest y'all can get to see andexperience space journeying.

It'south July 19th, 1969, far from hybrid cars, instagrams and robotic waiters. Somewhere out there something is happening, something incredibly important, much more libation than all the photos of naked, one-half-naked celebrities and one-half-broiled muffins of celebritieshoped-for. Ladies and gentlemen, may I nowadays to you lot an ultimate triumph of a mankind: landing on the Moon! Starring: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, dozens of scientists, engineers, technicians, NASA's staff, fellow astronauts, and their families. This story however, focuses on Neil Armstrong, a human whose anxiety, or rather foot-parts of his infinite adjust, have touched the surface of the Moon for the very first fourth dimension.

Becoming and astronaut is not a slice of cake, and and so isn't existence a family of a space trainee. The picture shows us making of an astronaut and it is a long journeying – much longer than simply flight to the Moon and back. The story opens with Neil's family tragedy which will haunt him till the end. We accompany him in his ups and downs, when he vomits afterwards rotating in multiple planes at the speed so great he passes out,  when his beau astronauts die at the outset of their space flying, and when he qualifies to NASA'south project. When he struggles with a traumatic event he only can't become better from, and when his personality transforms to create an atmosphere so dense, he deserts beloved people. And that'southward simply earlier his major journeying.

First Homo portrays a human who dreams large and takes a journey through his bevearement to find himself in this globe or, should I rather say beyond this earth. Mayhap it'south his escape…?

But enough with the drama and psychological aspects of this beautiful, stirring deep movie. What I loved the most virtually it and what impressed me the most were incredible, out-of-this-world (alright, enough with this space-reference puns, I promise!) shots of flight inside and exterior the Earth atmosphere. I have never seen such an exciting and nerve-breaking picture show! As a spectator, I felt simply similar I was on board with Neil every time he got on a aeroplane or a spacecraft. For all the geeky technomaniacs out in that location – yous will surely relish the evolution of infinite engineering and fifty-fifty space suits, which is a silent but important star (okay, that was unintended!) of the movie.

A stunning, life-changing feel, that'south whatOutset Man is.

My rate: 10/10 (!)

P.Due south. Ryan Gosling surely deserves an Oscar for the master office!

P.S.ii Claire Foy was great besides!

Nine(2009)

nine

Musical, drama, romance – Italian republic, USA – 118 min

Written by Michael Tolkin and Anthony Minghella

Directed by Rob Marshall

How many women does it take to brand a flick?

Nine is a cinematographic have on a Broadway musical with the same title. Taking place in Italian republic in the lx'south, it depicts a famous managing director Guido Contini who struggles with his new motion-picture show and his life, or rather, his lifewith women in information technology. As he is fighting in despair his disability to write a script and trying to get through diverse relationships with the gentle sex, we go to see and hear the musical parts.

A whole constellation of stars has been involved in the motion-picture show with Daniel Day-Lewis playing the primary part, Marion Cotillard being his wife, Penelope Cruz – his mistress and Sophia Loren herself with the role of mother, just to mention a few large names.

For me, the movie'due south a sweet candy with no filling. Though Rob Marshall brought united states of americaChicago(2002), this one sadly does non live up to the heels. The women are beautiful, the choreography and costumes are beautiful, the cinematography is swell, too. Just that's about information technology. Nigh of the songs are not performed as good equally to be remembered, with the exception of those sung by Fergie and Cotillard (second one). The plot seems to be lacking something. It leads me to the feeling of incompleteness of the story, as it is not whole.  And the fake Italian emphasis of Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't make it better.

This is a motion-picture show nigh passion and if you seek emotions, romance and drama fifty-fifty more than, you'll certainly find much in it.

I give information technology six/10.

P.S. Volition practice for Valentine'south Twenty-four hours!

Me Before You (2016)

Drama, Romance, Comedy (?) – UK, USA – 1 h fifty min

Written by Jojo Moyes (also the author of the novel)

Directed by Thea Sharrock

Me before seeing the picture show: yay! Let'due south watch this! Both the affiche and the trailer look and so promising! ;D

Me after seeing the movie: Meh.

The  human:a expert-looking, rich, in his early thirties, living a life full of extreme sports. So, an blow happens (What a surprise! Wow! Who wouldever wait this?) that lefts him paralyzed, practically friendless and stuck in his parents' castle.

The adult female: a practiced-looking, freshly fired from her waitress mail, twenty-something wearing wearing apparel either of a grandma or a fifth-grader, who is drastic to assist her family financially (quote:We need that money!). She decides to go for an interview for the post of a companion/carer of a paralyzed homo, the man. And, oh, she gets the task, despite her nil qualifications and none experience.

It was so unexpected that they won't go on well at the beginning but autumn in love afterward. Except for it wasn't.

I was amazed how much cliche is that movie. I know that drama-romance films commonly follow well-known schemes but really I was certainly not prepared for this.

It was funny or ridiculous in moments probably not intended to be. Take Mother of the Dragons', erm, Emilia Clarke's unbelievable eyebrow trip the light fantastic and forehead'south skin movements. Information technology surely has a lot of one-act potential. However, it didn't fit in the flick'southward theme in my opinion. Instead, that features would be terrific in John Bean-like sketches.

I observe information technology hard to believe how many wrongs are included in the plot and portrays of the characters. The main heroine seems to be retarded for, similar, a half of the motion-picture show. Turns out she isn't. The paralyzed man going for the wedding of his former all-time friend and his one-time girlfriend? That's absurd and unreal! The strangest for me is, however, the conclusion.

The lesson taught by this  movie is as follows: be a poor but attractive woman -> autumn in beloved (unwillingly!) with a rich man ->  spend some wonderful time on exotic trips with him -> get coin from him and live happily despite tragical past of your love. The end.

I haven't read the volume only now I am definitely non going to read either.

Anyone has anything good to say about the motion picture? Please, practise cause I merely liked the advent of 1 dress and the marvellous scenery of an exotic island.

My rating: 3/ten

Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci fi, Comedy, Drama – The states – 135 min

Written by Lawrence Kasdan, J. J. Abrams, Michael Arndt, (George Lucas)

Directed by J. J. Abrams

It is said nobody's perfect, nothing's perfect on Earth. Well, then this movie must have been made on some other planet, in a galaxy far, far abroad

Millions of people around the world, generations of fans have been waiting for it for 10 years, since the concluding Star Wars movie –Episode III – Revenge of the Sith(2005) was released. Finally, here it is!

Allow'south exist honest – the bar has been ready very high. The creators, still, jumped over it in a fine fashion.

The moving-picture show brings out the very all-time of the erstwhile trilogy and go out the audience delighted. The classic Star Wars motives and gags are combined masterly with freshness and inventiveness. We've got a new strong female atomic number 82, a new ridiculously cute (and funny!) droid, a young man who decides to alter his destiny, a human in a black mask who commands Stormtroopers and uses the Force. We've got a complicated parents-son relationship, friendships, a bit of love. Nosotros've got The Resistance, the Starting time Lodge – a Nazi-inspired dark-side heir of the Galactic Empire. Finally, we've got some old friends, also! And… a hunt after Luke. The Luke!

Fast, complex action, thrilling adventures, explosions, engaging fight scenes (yup, that's the world- engaging). I laughed, I cried.  Information technology certainly doesn't lack surprises – both pleasant and not. I really enjoyed the plot, the marvellous shots and special furnishings. The awesome characters and their costumes add to the awesomeness of the whole. And that'southward not most all. Watch it, and yous'll know what I mean.

Although the movie could have spared few pocket-sized mistakes, The Force Awakensis as skilful as it can be.

(I gotta tell yous, Rey is my new favorite heroine!)

My score: 10/10 (!!!)

Today in Poland (and many other countries as well) is the day of the big premiere of the Star Wars: Force Awakens (2015), the seventh part of the iconic saga. We're but witnessing a major result in the globe popculture.

I never considered myself to be a role of the sci-fi fandom. It was only this year that I have seen my very first Star Wars movie. And boy! Was I surprised! Turns out, it has much to offer, fifty-fifty to those of you lot who stay away from futurism and space fiction.

For yous, dear sceptics, I listed beneath some reasons why youshould requite it a try and lookout manStar Wars* after all. You're welcome.

ane. The characters:whether he or she looks like human, has metallic robotic heart or is an alien with adequately odd appearance – it tin can earn your  favor (or antypathy) suprisingly fast . At that place are enough of strong personalities,  fascinating creatures, incredible beings (both from the visual and the temper-point of view) in the saga. The diversity of roles is striking – as it covers inhabitants of different planets and races.

Again, many of them has go legendary over the years. Some have complicated background story. Some are just one of many. Some Jedi masters are. Do watch for Han Solo. Do watch for master Yoda. Do lookout man for Wookie. Do scout for… your choice!

Most of the roles are well-played. MOST.

characters

2. Leia:okay, I only fabricated a whole separate reason for 1 graphic symbol. Just she is worth information technology! Intelligent, courageous, brave, beautiful. Adept- hearted! Elegant. (And… pretty!) That's all I could ask for when it comes to perfect female part. Seriously, Leia is one of the best lady graphic symbol in the whole story of cinematography. Plus – she's expert at combat! My heroine. Feminists out there – you'll be delighted!

leia

3. The relationships:if you are fond of romances – you will find a good one (Leia and Han Solo). If you hate romances – y'all will laugh out loud sneeringly at Anakin and Amidala's poor flirting inStar Wars: Episode 2 – Set on of the Clones(2002).

Now, if you're looking for a movie about true friendship – do lookout the saga. It's total of (often funny) buddies who may not always agree, just truly dearest each other. My favorite couple of pals are two droids: R2D2 and C3PO. Y'all cannot watch their 'dialogues' and not laugh or at to the lowest degree smile sincerely. Do watch for them, exercise lookout for Han Solo and Wookie.

rel

4. The visuals:firstly, Amidala'south incredible outfits, hairdos and makeup. This is truly a sky for manner-oriented moviegoers. Her fashion is outstanding and delightful! Her appearance surely has been inspired by the Orient but even so is original as it could exist!

amidala

Secondly, costumes and characterisation. In the sometime trilogy (episodes IV – VI), the aliens of strange appearance are played by the actors wearing fantastic costumes. It works great! And – surprisingly! – seems so natural! In the episodes I – 3 most of these wonderful alien costumes has been replaced simply by computer effects (CGI). The audience didn't like that as it took abroad much of conflicting's charm. In the newest episode the actors wearing costumes are said to be dorsum! 🙂

Thirdly, special furnishings and scenery. Spaceships, planets, cities. Explosions. Races and chases. Nicely done! Very nicely done!

5. Epic battles and fights: frigging lightsabers! Fighting with lightsabers! Double lightsabers! Not enough?!

figths

Fine combat styles. Fighting with space vehicles. Boom! Boom! Tatatat-tata!

The force! Jedi knights! The dark side of the force!

vi. Real-globe problems in the imaginary one: the ups and downs of the parent-children human relationship (oh, male child!). Not always then perfect work of parliament (yup). The eternal good vs. evil conflict. Lust for ability. Greed. Slavery. Death.

slavery

Well, these are the reasons that came to my head. There are probably even more. And so why non give it a attempt?

All the same having doubts?

May the  force be with you!

Comedy (?) – USA – 89 min

Written by Justin Zackham and Jean-Stephane Bron & Karine Sudan ( Mon frère se marie )

Directed by Justin Zackham

Big hymeneals? Bigboring.

Take a bunch of bang-up actors: Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, Susan Sarandon…) and put them into a movie that's a patchwork of many well- known romantic comedies/dramas/musicals. Exist sure to include the actors who usually play in such movies and identify them in their usual roles. Ta-dah! There goes our film. It is an american remake of Monday frère se marie (2006).

Don and Ellie used to exist married. They had a girl, a son and an adopted son Alejandro. Subsequently the divorce, Don's partner, Bebe, has been similar a mother to all his children. Now Alejandro is about to marry Missy and start his own family. His biological mother is coming for the event. She's believed to be a very bourgeois catholic and her son forces anybody to pretend Don and Ellie are still married. Blah apathetic blah. Blah.

Is it a comedy? I hardly laughed once or twice. The only ones who seem to enjoy themselves are the actors (run across the poster) only that'southward probably because they were paid for information technology. Notwithstanding, I'grand pretty sureThe Big Weddingbelongs to the "overly sexualized" movie section, which makes information technology even harder to appreciate in whatsoever way. And it'southward yet not funny.

Go alee and watch it, if yous're drastic enough and dying for a mix of your favorite wedding-family comedies yous've seen dozen times.

My rate: iv/10 (Guess big names and a large hymeneals practise NOT result in a big pic).

Today, you can do everything. You lot tin be whoever you want to be. You tin live nevertheless you like. You are free. (At least in some countries).

How much exercise you value your freedom? Accept you ever idea what was the cost of that freedom? How much suffer, How much deaths It took (or it's however taking).

Soufragette brings to your ain eyes and soul the tough boxing for women'southward rights. And I'g telling you, Information technology does It in a very fine mode.

Meet Maud. A laundry worker with 17 years of feel. A wife, a female parent. A 24-twelvemonth-quondam woman. Surprised? Well, it wasn't quite shocking in Nineteen century'due south England. She's 1 of the many. The underestimated, hard-working full people with no total rights. Just because they are women. Together, they give up much , give all they take for the sake of their cause. For gender equality nosotros take for granted. Their path is every bit hard as bricks in the cells they are being imprisoned in. Their physical wounds are no match for the endure of humiliation and injustice. Yet, so many people, both men and women, are against them.

Excellent storyline, great characters, marvellous acting (the boy!). Wonderful pictures. But a pity mrs. Pankhurst'south story and character isn't much developed.

A cute piece of cinematography. Not overy dramatized, not in a faux way. A must-watch. And then that we can value the freedom more…

Written by John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Jez Butterworth and others

They say information technology'due south the most expensive of all Bond movies.

They say it has broken franchise record in Poland with 900,000 movie-goers within just a week.

I say: yawn!

Risky mission in Mexico. A funeral in Rome. C and "Nine Optics". Killings, many many killings. Expensive cars. And reveal of Bail's past.

I'd rather not mention an unbelievably incongrous romance with a girl of Bond's enemy, a romance which stinks similar pretentiousness (especially when you hear the iii words, ugh) and false. I'd improve not tell y'all about an unforgivable, TERRIBLE sin that is Not developing Monica Bellucci's character which has such a great potential. Likewise, let me non get to the ridiculous and cheap (I gauge non in terms of money…) opening which can give you nightmares.

Instead, let me focus on the advantages. There were, of class, thrilling chases, shots, fights, explosions and… tortures. An incredible scene of combat inside a helicopter gave me a hysterical laugh.  Stylish black-white colouring of the film (which noticed my BF) was certainly a prissy thought, fits the usual outfit of 007. I loved stunning landscapes – mountains especially (a thing on the side, but oh, well ;p).

After all, it'due south a Bond picture show. Nosotros don't watch it for logic nor particular moral qualities. We watch it for the action, for the excitement we get thanks to this absolutely non-human agent of many faces and his nearly supernatural abilites. Nosotros seek corking gadgets, cool vehicles, seductive women and amazing combat scenes. We yr for  thrilling adventures to brand united states of america feel like we are Bonds.

And so we notice it.

A Girl Walks Dwelling Alone at Night (2014)

image

Horror (?), drama – United states – 101 min
Written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour

A girl walks home alone at dark.

Really, no. She isn't. She's on the streets on purpose.

The girl's after sinful blood, killing bad people. Or, if y'all're lucky enough, she but warns y'all to change your sinful ways. Kind of a superhero, in a supertwisted manner. (She even wears a cape!)

Bad City with its few citizens seems to be total of various sins and poor life choices. A drug dealer, drug addicts, a streetwalker, her clients, a male child who tells lies, a spoiled girl from a wealthy family. Finally, a boy serving the rich house, whose father is both fond to drugs and the hooker's customer. He, who adopts a homeless cat, takes care of his parent and seeks dear. Virtually crystal clear. He and the vampire girl fall in love. Or something like that – I hateful vampires have cold, expressionless hearts, don't they?

Regardless of what I had read in the reviews, I did non encounter a neat story of forbidden dearest. The plot was alright, not really touching, not really eyes-opening. Nor did I see a horror. I'd rather telephone call information technology a dark fantasy-drama with some western in it. Okay, there are some bloody, violent scenes but fearful events haven't been much highlighted. The whole atmoshphere was mysterious, lyrical and hypnotising. Yes, that's the most adequate word. The blackness-whiteness, in which the motion-picture show was created, paired with madly perfect-suited soundtrack add to the strange feeling about the movie. Or, is it a vampire's play a joke on? Now I tin be scared. Perhaps information technology is a horror anyway…

Anyway, it is a beautiful slice of cinematography, made with mastery. Some scenes were simply amazing and addictive  (I want to do skateboarding with black cape on besides!), some enigmatic and leave yous puzzled.

My rating: 8/ten.

P.S. Cheque out the soundtrack!

USA – comedy, romance – 101 min

Written by Eve Ahlert andDennis Drake

Directed past Peyton Reed

Women vs. men. Men vs. women. This war lasts quite a few years. Or centuries. Or millennia.  'Women are so…' in the eyes and mouths of men, while 'Men are but likewise… and not plenty…' co-ordinate to women. The movie makers take on this seemingly risky, merely oh and so entertaining and engaging field of study. Likewise, quite widely used.

The female person army in the moving picture is atomic number 82 by Barbara Novak (Rene Zellweger – flawless), an author of the best-selling advice bookDown with dearest, in which she calls for women to be potent, career-oriented and contained, not those falling for the opposite sex with their hearts open wide and fully devoting themselves to men. (Yes, Barbara has had her heart broken.)

On the other side of the disharmonize here we've got a playboy journalist Catcher Block (Ewan McGregor who fit merely right in the part). No, non a typo – they really named the character like that! Note the hidden meaning! Needless to say, they fight, irritate each other just are they really downwardly with dear? Nosotros sureKnow (within joke for those who have seen the picture) that Block'due south friend is not and he desperately tries to get something going with Novak'southward friend and no. ii in the female army.

Downward with Dearis a funny reflection on the whole matter of the war of the sexes. Information technology tries to detect a suitable, harmonic understanding between the two 'enemies' at least a few times. Nonetheless, information technology seems as if the moving picture makers take run out of ideas and finally go out the matter unsolved. Or, have they…?

The movie is above all the ideological features a nod to the 60's and a parody of its ridiculous style and characteristic way of picture show-making. It'due south then pleasant to watch it just to spot all the details, starting with iconic room decoration, clothes and hairdos, catastrophe with the studied poses of the actors and the ludicrous behaviour of the characters. Well done!

If you miss the 60'due south, want to watch something light, amusing just also thought-provoking – there'southward no better pick than this piece of cinematography. Set up for plot twists!

My rate: 8/10

P.S. Are you lot down with love?
